An examination of labour migration to the UK is both timely and important. It is timely because the UK Government, like many governments around the world, has been attempting in recent years to devise effective policies to manage migration into the country. Informed by economic imperatives resulting from labour shortages in key sectors as well as an ageing population, managed labour migration has emerged as one strategy to ensure sustained economic growth.
