This guidance is intended to set out the key provisions of the law on child employment and include some best practice advice for those implementing it. It is intended to be read mainly by local authority officers dealing with child employment, employers, parents and other stakeholders. This guidance is about the special rules which apply to the employment of children under the school leaving age. It covers employment in England but is not an authoritative legal interpretation of the provisions of the relevant Acts of Parliament, byelaws and regulations, which is a matter for the Courts.
