Our economic future depends on our productivity as a nation. That requires a labour force with skills to match the best in the world. This is a huge challenge, because there are some deep-seated and long-standing weaknesses in our national skills. We have put in place major reform programmes for 14-19 year olds and adult skills, backed by substantial investment.
