The purpose of the programme is to identify good features and shortcomings in order that the provider may improve the quality of education and training offered and raise the standards achieved by learners. Inspection is also designed to give learners more information about the quality of providers of initial teacher training. All inspections conducted under the arrangements apply the following principles: the use of a common framework which is common to all sectors of education and training in Wales, an emphasis on the provider’s evaluation of its work, the involvement of a provider nominee who works with the inspection team and the inspection of a sample of provision.
