
The Minister for Education and Skills announced in his speech in February that, as part of our National Literacy Plan, we would be introducing a national reading test. We would also develop similar plans for numeracy. The National Reading and Numeracy Tests will be implemented on a statutory basis; the first groups of learners will sit tests in May 2013.
From Friday 16 December, the Welsh Government is seeking your views on proposals to widen the current requirement for teachers to register with a professional body to cover a wider sector which will include Further Education, Work Based Learning and Teaching Assistants. The consultation documents also seeks your views on whether other members within the education profession who contribute to the development of children and young people such as youth workers and other support staff should also be able to register. This consultation seeks views on proposals to introduce an updated replacement for the Education (School Teachers’ Qualifications) (Wales) Regulations 2004. The consultation proposes to make changes to some of the requirements for recognition as a qualified teacher in Wales.

Funded by the Welsh Government, this pack will be available for all schools and will enable More Able and Talented Coordinators to conduct professional development with colleagues in school and assist in significantly embedding provision for MAT in schools.
