Education Minister, Leighton Andrews, has announced over £165,000 of funding to enable the continuation of an innovative project to promote singing in schools, after an evaluation found it was hitting the right notes.
The key points from the latest release (compared with January 2010) are: 30 less local authority (LA) maintained schools and 965 fewer pupils; 2 more independent schools and 432.2 less teachers (full-time equivalent) in the LA maintained sector.

In a report published today, an evaluation of the impact of the non-statutory Skills framework for 3 to 19 year olds in Wales at key stage 2, Estyn found that too few schools plan a ‘skills-based’ curriculum that consists of progressively more complex activities designed to develop pupils’ thinking, communication, ICT and number skills. A downloadable resource pack is available on the Arts Council of Wales website and provides an introduction to the Venice Biennale and the work of Tim Davies, the artist selected to represent Wales at Venice in 2011. This pack is designed for pupils at Key Stage 2, however, it can also be used by older students and as a general guide.
