The Welsh Assembly Government is considering how to drive short-term and long-term improvements to standards in Welsh second language. We have commissioned Arad Research to undertake a national research project which will provide an important evidence base to inform future developments. A questionnaire has been developed for primary and secondary schools and we would like to encourage all relevant schools to complete the on-line questionnaire by 25 March 2011. The Welsh Assembly Government is working towards raising the literacy standards of children in Wales aged 7-11. The current focus has been on raising awareness amongst the parents, carers and grandparents of this target group. An information leaflet has been produced called ‘Make time to read’ and has been distributed widely across Wales. The following resource can also be posted onto your schools website.

Environment Agency Wales is writing to the headteachers of all 126 schools at risk of flooding across Wales. Support and assistance will be offered in developing and implementing a school flood plan. Please e-mail the agency for a copy of the letter.
The Welsh Assembly Government commissions a wide range of resources which support the teaching of Welsh as a subject, other subjects through the medium of Welsh, and bilingual (Welsh/English) materials to support the teaching of Wales-specific aspects of the school/college curriculum.
