National Curriculum Assessments of 7, 11 and 14 Year Olds, 2007

This Statistical First Release provides final information for Wales on the achievements of 7, 11 and 14 year olds in the National Curriculum assessments in 2007. This updates the provisional information published in SDR 121/2007 on the 4th September 2007.

The key points from the Release are as follows:
7 year olds - Key Stage 1
- The percentage of pupils achieving at least the expected level was lower for all subjects when compared to the results of the 2006 assessments, but higher by at least 1 percentage point for each subject than in 1999;
- Girls outperformed boys in all subjects.
11 year olds - Key Stage 2
- The percentage of pupils achieving at least the expected level in teacher assessments was lower than in 2006 in all the subjects, but higher by at least 9 percentage points for each subject than they were in 1999;
- Girls continue to outperform boys in all subjects.
14 year olds - Key Stage 3
- The percentage of pupils achieving at least the expected level in teacher assessments was higher than in 2006 in English and Welsh, and lower in Mathematics and Science;
- With the exception of Welsh, which has risen 1 percentage point compare to 1999, all other subjects are at least 6 percentage points higher than they were in 1999;
- Girls continue to outperform boys in all subjects.
