
Comprehensive new research into bullying amongst school pupils in Wales has been published in Wales. The research, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, aims to determine the incidence of bullying in schools in Wales focusing on pupils’ experiences. In total, 7,448 pupils in years 4, 6, 7 and 10 from 167 schools in Wales were surveyed. Press release and read a brief summary of some of the key findings

Education Minister Leighton Andrews has stressed the important role Welsh Higher Education Institutions have to play in securing Wales’ future in high level research and development. Opening the Digital Economy Research and Development event in Cardiff, in his first major speech as Education Minister, Leighton Andrews said encouraging greater collaboration across the sector would help Wales exploit its extensive expertise and influence in order to compete effectively with the rest of the UK.
83 per cent of qualifiers were in employment (65 per cent at 6 months). 7 per cent were in work and further study (11 per cent at 6 months). 5 per cent were in further study only (14 per cent at 6 months).

Two one-day Conferences will be held on 1st and 3rd of February at the Swansea DVLA and the Technium Cast Bangor respectively. These conferences are held in part to support European Safer Internet Day which is on the 9th of February 2010.
The website is targeted at 3-19 year olds and provides a range of flexible interactive learning resources to encourage young people to use and apply the Olympic and Paralympic values in learning through use of games, factsheets, films and news articles. It also has links to a range of specialist resources. There are already over 250 registrations from schools and colleges in Wales to use the site.

The materials in this catalogue have been recently published. The Labour Force Survey estimates for the 3 months to October 2009 show: the employment rate of people of working age in Wales was 69.1 per cent, down from 70.9 per cent in the same period a year earlier. The UK average was 72.5 per cent. The ILO unemployment rate in Wales was 8.8 per cent of the economically active, up from 6.6 per cent in the same period a year earlier. For the UK as a whole it was 7.9 per cent.
A new report published today finds that vocational qualifications, often viewed as the poor relation in the qualifications framework, frequently have value in the labour market. However, the differences in the pay increases generated between types and levels of vocational qualifications are considerable, being strongly influenced by the type of qualification and the method by which it is acquired.
