The Webb Review was an independent and wide ranging review resulting in 136 recommendations which offered proposals for change in post 14 educational provision. Consultation on the report was carried out through a series of workshops in Spring 2008, linking up discussion on the Webb Report with consultation on the "Skills that Work for Wales" Strategy. This report seeks to provide additional clarification on our policy position in relation to all 136 recommendations. More

The employment rate of people of working age in Wales was 71.9 per cent, up from 71.6 per cent in the same period a year earlier. The UK average was 74.4 per cent. More
Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for Retail, this month used a Cardiff event to call on retailers to engage with the skills system. Ed Balls has welcomed a range of innovative, voluntary, private and public sector pilots for teaching excluded pupils and intervening early to prevent the need for exclusion. The 12 pilots from around the country will test new and innovative ways of teaching those who have been excluded, those at risk of exclusion or those who cannot be taught in mainstream schools for other reasons. Proposals aimed at helping society realise its mental potential at every stage of peoples' lives are contained in a major new report published by Foresight, the Government's futures think tank. The study into 'Mental Capital and Wellbeing' looks at how a person's mental resources change through life, as a child, adult and in old age, and identifies factors that can help or hinder their development. Children living away from home, or using social care services, want to feel safer online, be protected from unsuitable sites and have adult supervision, highlights a new report. The report, ‘Future care: Children’s advice on future care standards’, follows consultation with 686 children and young people - aged between four and 20. More
