This consultation invites views on proposed amendments to The School Teacher Appraisal (Wales) Regulations 2002. The School. The Regulations provide for the appraisal of the performance of school teachers. Responses should be returned by 19 June 2009.
Full-time student income rose by eight per cent in real terms between 2004/05 and 2007/08 to over £10,000 during the academic year. However, the bulk of this increase is accounted for by tuition fee loans and grants which are paid direct to the students’ institution. Compared with their counterparts in 2004/05, full-time students are less reliant on family and friends for income and more dependent on sources of government financial support, ie loans and, increasingly, grants.
Disadvantaged young people across six South Wales counties will be given the chance to improve their future job prospects and help their local communities under a new EU-backed initiative, announced by Brian Gibbons, Minister for Social Justice and Local Government. The £4 million PUPIL project (Pupils Understanding Problems In their Locality), will provide extra support for over 2,000 young people.

The number of applicants to UK universities and colleges is up 8.8% on this time last year. Data released by UCAS refers to people applying for full-time undergraduate courses and is a snapshot taken at 24 March. So far this year, 524,151 people have applied to start courses this autumn compared with 481,784 at the same point last year. Applicants from overseas are still on the rise.
