ProAct, a major new Welsh Assembly Government pilot scheme to support businesses and employees during the economic downturn, will initially focus on the automotive sector in Wales Education Minister Jane Hutt has announced. A new Welsh Assembly Government-funded programme designed to help overweight and obese children manage their weight and become fitter, healthier and happier will start being rolled out across Wales. The £1.4million scheme will target around 2,000 children aged between 7-13 years old and their families over the next three years.
The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) commissioned Ipsos MORI and Cambridge Policy Consultants (CPC) to conduct research into how the Apprenticeship programme in England can be expanded across the public sector. The primary aim of the research was to provide an understanding of the constraints and barriers facing the public sector in their use of Apprenticeships and to identify ways in which these can be overcome.
Spending on Research and Development (R&D) by leading UK firms rose by 6 per cent in 2007 - reaching £21.6 billion - according to figures published by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). The annual R&D Scoreboard, published in collaboration with the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), also shows that the UK's 88 biggest R&D investors grew their R&D by 10.3 per cent over the previous year whereas their global peers averaged a 9.5 per cent increase.
