This Circular sets out the policy context and general principles and issues which have a bearing on reviewing the provision of school places. The Database of Approved Qualifications in Wales replaces the Section 96 List on the Welsh Assembly Government website. DAQW is a bilingual, web based service with public access. DAQW is fully searchable by single keyword or more advanced search options. Results can be saved, printed or downloaded in CSV formats.

There were an estimated 319,000 people employed in the public sector in Wales in 2008, an increase of 7,000 (or 2 per cent) on 2007 and an increase of 29,000 (or 10 per cent) on 1999. For the UK as a whole, public sector employment in 2008 was up 53,000 (or 1 per cent) on 2007 and up 608,000 (or 12 per cent) on 1999. The public sector accounted for 23.9 per cent of total employment in Wales in 2008, up 0.4 percentage points on 2007 and down 0.3 percentage points on 1999.
