
First Minister Carwyn Jones has announced the members of his new Cabinet as the Welsh Government begins its ambitious programme to stand up for Wales and create a country of equality, opportunity and social justice. Leighton Andrews AM has been appointed the Minister for Education and Skills.
Two new guidance documents which support the teaching of religious education at Key Stages 2 and 3 are now available. The documents ‘Religious education: Guidance for Key Stage 2 and 3’ and ‘Exemplifying learner profiles at Key Stages 2 and 3 in religious education: Additional guidance’ support the implementation of the exemplar framework by providing key messages for planning learning and teaching.
This document is statutory guidance for local authorities in Wales. It underpins their responsibilities to help support the education and training of children and young people in youth custody.

The CânSing programme is focused on helping to encourage and develop singing activities in schools across Wales. Delivery of the programme is led by ContinYou Cymru, with funding support from the Welsh Assembly Government. A National CânSing Day is being held on Tuesday, 21 June 2011.
The Welsh Chess Union (WCU) is keen to support the establishment of chess clubs in every school in Wales, and has been encouraged by the Welsh Assembly Government in taking forward this aim.
