
A new website called ‘Pupil Voice Wales’ has been launched for children, young people and adults in educational settings in Wales. The purpose of the web site is to allow children, young people and staff to share information, post comments, ask questions and publish case studies about their involvement in decisions that affect them in learning settings across Wales. A new £4.6m initiative aimed at helping young people from Gypsy Traveller communities into employment has been given the go-ahead Education Minister Leighton Andrews announced today. Pembrokeshire County Council’s Learning and Future Employment project will receive £2.5m from the Convergence European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Assembly Government.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Chongqing in China and Wales has been signed to enhance joint international educational opportunities for students in both countries. The signing of the MoU has taken place during ‘Wales Week’ in Chongqing which includes a series of Wales-related business, tourism, education and cultural events.

This circular attaches for consultation the draft HEFCW Corporate Strategy 2010-11 to 2012-13. The Strategy is based firmly on the Welsh Assembly Government’s publication For our Future, the 21st Century Higher Education Strategy and Plan for Wales.
Around 30 Assembly Members met experts from the Beacon for Wales and Welsh Higher Education Institutions at the National Assembly’s Senedd building, to find out how universities in Wales are leading the way in terms of working with the public. The ‘Higher Education and the Welsh Public’ exhibition, organised by the Beacon for Wales, celebrated the many ways in which Welsh universities bring their knowledge out into the wider world.
The theme of this week is biodiversity. Events are being held at zoos, at museums, at parks and gardens, as well as at schools and even shopping centres.
Research published last week reveals that most employers are happy with the calibre of their employees, with some 93% of the UK workforce thought to be proficient at their jobs. However, experts warned against complacency, saying that employers would need to expect more from, and invest more in, their staff in order to remain globally competitive as the fragile economy emerges from recession.
