
The CELLS Minister announced the establishment of the Review of Higher Education in Wales Task and Finish Group on 25 June. The work of the Group so far has focused on the first part of its remit, looking at student finance arrangements. The Chair of the Group, Professor Merfyn Jones, submitted his final report on this first stage of the Review to the Minister in October.

The Application Guides accompanying the new overarching professional standards for teachers, tutors and trainers in the lifelong learning sector in Wales are now available online along with a helpful guide for their use.
Estyn has announced its programme of school inspections for the spring term of 2009. A total of 110 establishments across Wales will be inspected. Contracts have been allocated for teams of registered inspectors to visit and report on 89 Primary schools, 14 Secondary schools, 2 Special schools and 2 Pupil Referral Units.
e-skills UK would like to remind the provider network in Wales that the ITQ good practice guide for Wales is available on the e-skills web site. It provides a useful reference and support tool for providers and is updated on a regular basis. e- skills UK actively encourage Welsh provider feedback and to this end requests that any recent case studies be submitted for use.
